Reading Response 3

Before Writing: To complete this assignment, it will be necessary to have developed your definitions of ReMix and Plagiarism and the criteria for telling the difference between the two. It will also be necessary to have read and studied chapters 8 and 9 in Writing About Cool.

Writing:

  • Picking up from where the last class left off, in your first paragraph, write out your group’s definitions of remix, plagiarism, and how to tell the difference between the two.
  • In your second paragraph, give a summary of the most important points in chapter 8. This chapter is longer than the others and provides much information. Be as thorough as possible in your summary. Provide two links to non-commercial websites.
  • For your third paragraph, pick an activity to do from one of the boxes in the chapter. Tell your audience which activity you chose and answer the questions as thoroughly as possible from the activity. Provide at least one relevant link.
  • Chapter nine is considerably shorter than the previous chapter. In your fourth paragraph, summarize chapter 9 as thoroughly as possible. Provide one link.
  • The final paragraph is not a paragraph, but two images. Following Rice’s guidelines on page 86, find two images of contrasting “cool poses.” It will be necessary to make note of the similarities and differences of the images and to determine whether they have roots in African-American experience. You don’t need to write this explanation on the blog, but you do need to have it written down in your personal notes. We will use your images for class discussion and will likely ask for your interpretation on the images.
  • Technical note: You should already know how to do this, but just in case, I’ve put these directions here for you:. The images should appear in the blog post itself. To do this, you will need to use images from a site that does not require an account or a password. To get the image location, it is important that you use Mozilla Firefox . When you find the image, right click and hit “view image.” When the image opens in the browser, right click again and hit “properties.” A new window will pop up. In the pop-up window, go to where it says location and drag your cursor to copy the URL. Right click, and hit “copy.” Back inside your post, click on the tree icon in the toolbar and paste the URL in the pop-up window. Do this for both images.

  • Due: Class Time on Thursday, October 13.
