Chapter 1 Cool Media

This chapter begins defining the word cool. Cool can be spelled kewl or kool. We can always relate cool to what’s popular or hip. Rap music has been cool in my generation since I could walk. This chapter names Digable Planets, Fab Freddy Five, Snoop Dog and Jay-z all are pioneers of Hip hop music. Cool on the internet is all about graphics and originality. It has to catch the reader’s attention to keep them on a website.

Chapter 2 Surfing the Internet for Cool

This chapter examines cool on the internet. The internet is changing from year to year. Websites need graphics or words that will standout. Surfers on the net will want to stay and explore the site. There are many websites that are geared toward the younger generation. They are connecting with their audience. Yahoo’s Yahooligans, MTV’s Total Request live, and and are examples of youth culture on the internet.

Chapter 3 Advertising This chapter deals with advertisement and it’s realationship with cool. The word cool is normally used in the ad TV Personalities are being used in ads to attract consumers. Michael Jordan’s gatorade commercial was telling people to drink gatorade to be like him. Basketball fans and Mike’s fans were drinking gatorade becuase they saw Michael Jordan doing so. Nike has the same advertisements with athletes promoting their shoes.

Chapter 4 Advertising and Youth Culture

This chapter informs us that the teenage comsumer is a major part of advertising today. Journalist Malcolm Gladwell wrote an essay about new styles in urban cities. The teenagers are buying products, but have their own style. Advertisers want to keep up with the youth and make sure their ad will appeal to teenagers.

Chapter 5 Resistance to Advertising: The Cool Approach

This chapter discusses cultural jamming and Cultural jamming is a way for everyday people to get back at advertisers. The media is always trying to sell something or make use think a certain way. The media should be used for educating or informing citizens about our culture and our world.
