I chose to write about Jack the Giant by Greg Montano.
I love art and many of the choices when viewed seemed very depressing. The title caught my eye and I gave it a whirl. The presentation is set up of eight images, and viewing the site here at UTA provided no sound so the images were all I had to go on. I watched them a few times to see what the artist was trying to get his audience to feel. The first image shows a shack in a field???? I am not sure what the shack represents could be the start of Jack’s life???? The next images in order of sequence as I viewed made me think of money in the hand goes fast and is never quite enough, drugs, the feeling of freedom for the moment, Jack being tied down, violence and strength, the feeling of being small in a big world, and the last picture shows the same shack with a grave marker……perhaps Jack ended his life??? Maybe this story is the beginning and end for Jack???The collection of digital images were clever, a story without words and of course as mentioned no sound. I felt intrigued and would recommend checking out the site to see what you make of it. The great thing about art is that is means something different to everyone. A picture has a thousand words…..I am sure you have heard that before….well good art is meant to get you thinking and feeling. I love photography but this was more than a few photos, Greg Montano has captured a theme and with only eight photos an entire story. The images displayed lots of contrasting colors and pops out at you. I felt compelled to watch and write about Jack the Giant.Take a minute and see what I mean.
