Talking to a brickwall

I know my Dad always used to tell me that talking to me was like talking to a brickwall. I don’t honestly know why he told me that, but while looking through these projects, this photo by Heather Cheetham really stuck out to me. The title of her photo is “Brickwall” The emotion that black and white photography portrays will never cease amaze me. I saw this picture, and that memory of my dad and I joking about my personal similarities to a brick wall came to my mind. The memories of my father have always been good. He has been there for me as much as he could, and I thank him for it. But what this picture brings to mind is a feeling of lonliness. walls all around. As I bring the two thoughts together, I have to ask, “Is it possible that others have no been so lucky in their relationships with their fathers?” This may not have been her intent, but I see the lonliness all around in the picture.
My favorite part of the picture is the thing that I missed until I really just sat and looked at it. The glimmer of hope. The window. While it may be a wall, there is a window in the wall. Totally open. A way out. A connection to the other side. It is not just a wall, but a gateway into something better that is just on the other side of the wall. Past the wall, there is a path and along the path there is a door. Hope lies beyond the wall, with a possible end to the lonliness.
Overall, this is a beautiful production. I thought it was a wonderful. photo, that portrayed deep emotion and feeling.
